We are coming to the end of another 2x Icewind Dale currency event. If you haven't done so yet, you may wish to swing through IWP and DV and do a round of quests. If you havent finished the campaign yet, even better! Even reputation is doubled.. so its a great help. This can also be a quick boost to enabling elemental infusion with your Black Ice Shaping profession.
Another somewhat forgotten piece of the IWD campaign is the Blackice Forge. This is a strange hybrid between profession and campaign level. The first 3 stages you have to advance through the campaign and do daily/weekly tasks to level it. The final 2 stages require a massload of refined blackice and unified elements from alchemy.
For those who have forgotten, or maybe never knew at all, the Blackice Forge profession is how one does Elemental Infusion. That is a one time process per item that permanently adds stats to eq from the dragonflight, alliance, elven, drow, and some PVP sets. If you wear any of that, its a great thing to tack on a few additional stats. The drow even lets you specialize it further through infusion changing the stats to a raid/assault version that you choose.
The last 2 levels of black ice shaping are pretty expensive for someone who has only casually been doing the campaign. ..and thats probably about everyone who started after IWD was left behind in the list of MODs.
83,334 raw black ice.
This assumes starting from 0, no quests, no special tools. So it wont be that many. How do you figure out how many you need?
Processing raw blackice to refined blackice:
1500 raw black ice = 1350 refined black ice. (again assuming no xtra tools)
so we have raw = (refined/1350)1500
(75000 / 1350)1500 = 83,334
But Wait. Theres more!
July 6, 2017 has a 2x Professions event. One feature of this relates to the blackice forge. It cuts the costs to upgrade it in 1/2! So the total needed amount of refined blackice is cut in 1/2 as is the needed amount of Unified Elements. This is a great cost savings.
So theres something to look forward to.
One last item as long as we're looking ahead. This relates to mod 12, arriving at the end of July.
There are going to be a lot of shifts in seals and equipment that arrive with that mod. Seals of the element for example are starting to be phased out. This is the currency currently in use to buy alliance eq from the vendor in p.e. Armor up to IL 500 are going to be added as well.
Until now elemental (the name of infused eq) items from the df, drow, and elven sets were a good complement to other high end 'end game' eq. Even with the existence of Relic armor there were some stat combinations for some classes that could only be created using an item or 2 from the older sets. This may change.
It isn't for certain that this will fully obsolete all older gear. It is something that should be thought about before making investments in the forge however.
