Abbreviations and acronyms commonly used in Neverwinter and at times on this site.
- AA - Anointed Army, a DC daily power.
- AB - Arcane Brotherhood - A faction choice in icewind dale used in open world PVP
- AD - Astral Diamonds, the main in game neverwinter currency
- AC - also ACDC, anointed champion, a type of DC
- AFAIK - abbreviation for 'as far as I know'
- AFK - Away From Keyboard, the player isn't present at their computer
- AH - Auction house, place for buying items with AD
- AI - Aquisitions Incorporated - the name of mod 15
- AOE - Area of Effect, sometimes in other games just A.E. Powers that affect an area as opposed to Single Target.
- AP - Action Point. A stat quantity related to using daily powers. Less often may sometimes refer to armor pen.
- Barbie - nickname for barbian, a neverwinter player class.
- BB - Bye Bye
- BC - see BTC
- BH - see MBH / MCBH
- BHE - Big Heroic Encounter, used in many areas as well as the stronghold to indicate the largest HEs.
- BI - Black Ice, a type of enchantment, a professions material, and a currency associated with the Icewind Dale campaign
- BID - Black Ice Domination, a PVP event held in the Icewind Dale areas
- BIS - best item to have for a particular use, or a character that has all items at the best possible level/type
- BOA - see BTA
- BOB - Blessing of Battle, a DC at-will power.
- BOH - Bastion of Health, a DC encounter power.
- BOP - Bind on Pickup, ties that item to the player as soon as its obtained. Item should state if its BOA or BTC
- BS - (in context of course) Bryn Shander, an area associated with the Storm King's Thunder campaign (Mod 10).
- BTA - An item tied to characters in that account, items can be mailed to the same account and use shared bank slots.
- BTC - Bound to Character, an item tied to that character only
- BtS - Break the Spirit, a DC encounter power.
- Bubble - Divine Protector, an OP skill. Once their primary trait it has since been nerfed and is now more sparingly used.
- CA - Combat Advantage - a stat Also now less commonly: Cloaked Ascendancy - Mod 11. (Usually referred to as the area (RD) instead of the mod name.)
- CC - crowd control, a type of player skill. OR Cragmyre Crypt, a basic dungeon (not usually for the Epic/master version)
- CD - cooldown, a timer that limits the speed a power or object can be used.
- CN - Castle Never, an advanced dungeon from (Mod 9)
- Coal - Could mean 'coal' the profession consumable, or 'coalescent ward' the refinement item used to preserve reagents.
- CODG or Cradle - Cradle of the Death God, a 10 man trial from (Mod 13)
- Coder - Superset of devs. One who writes computer code for a game.
- COI - Conduit of Ice, a CW encounter power
- COW - Company of Wolves, a Barovia weekly quest (mod 14)
- CR - (updated for Mod 14), now more commonly used to reference Castle Ravenloft. Historically may refer to Cold Run, an area associated with the Storm King's Thunder campaign (Mod 10).
- CW - Control Wizard, a NW player class (now just wizard) OR rarely, coalescent ward an item used for item refinment.
- DC - Devoted cleric, a NW player class.
- Demo - Demogorgon, also known as ndemo, mdemo for easier and harder grades of the trial respectively.
- Devs - Developers, those who develop a game, and make administrative decisions. Not to be confused with a coder.
- DF - Dragonflight, a special guild or alliance event that has unique prizes
- DHE - demonic heroic encounters, HEs placed in various areas with the maze engine mod
- DO - Also DCDO, Divine Oracle, a type of DC.
- DPS - Damage Per Second, a number for amount of damage being done or descriptive term for damage doing classes
- DR - Dread Ring, can refer to the campaign, or the area based on it.
- DV - Dwarven Valley, an area associated with the Icewind Dale campaign
- ECC - Epic Cragmyre Cypt, an advanced dungeon, now officially named 'Cragmyre Crypt (master)' but the old abbreviation persists.
- EDemo - Epic Demogorgon, an advanced dungeon now officially 'Demogorgon (master)' but the old abbreviation persists.
- EE - Elemental Evil, a campaign originally from mod 6. Also refers to Evidence of Evil, a currency from mod 11.
- EQ - equipment.
- ETOS - Epic Temple of the Spider, now officially 'Temple of the Spider (master)' but the old abbreviation persists.
- ESVA - See MSVA. Rarely used as the E terminology has changed to M for new content.
- Exp - experience, the in game stat related to leveling, or a statement that a player is familiar with the given content
- FE - Fragment Expedition - one of the 'hunt type' activities, introduced with mod 17.
- FF - Forgemaster's Flame, a DC encounter power.
- F-S - Forsaken Souls, our guild.
- Folly - see MPF
- GF - Guardian Fighter (now just fighter), a NW player class.
- GG - Good Group, often a compliment give after a good run. Or now less commonly:
Guantlgrym, Also a PVE area, but mostly refers to 'GG Battlegrounds' a pvp battle event. - GL - Game Life. Opposite of RL.
- GS - Gear Score. Not officially in use since Mod 6, when the game switched to the newer IL system.
- GMOP - Greater mark of Potency, a refinement item for upgrading enchantments.
- GMT - Greenwich Mean Time, a standard for time zones, now officially superceded by UTC.
- GWD - Grey Wolf Den, a name that could refer to either the early or advanced (master) version of that dungeon.
- GWF - Great Weapons Fighter (now known as barbarians), a NW player class.
- HDPS - High DPS (see dps), a dps player considered powerful for the current content
- HE - Heroic encounter, special fights with additional prizes
- HG, Hallowed Ground, a DC daily power.
- HR - Hunter Ranger, a NW player class.
- ICD - Internal Cooldown. A timer, hidden from player view, that determines how long until a power repeats.
- IG - Illusionist's Gambit. Skirmish from mod 11.
- IIRC - If I recall correctly
- IL - Item Level, a generic measure of power built up from attributes (eq, pets, boons, etc) acquired by the player.
- IRL - In Real Life.
- IT - Icy Terrain, a CW power
- IWD - Icewind Dale, a campaign from mod 3 and an area associated with it
- LF - "looking for", may be seen as LFG(looking for group), lf4m (looking for 4 more), etc.
- LOL - Laugh out Loud. A short way to show laughter in text.
- LW - Lonely Wood, , an area associated with the Storm King's Thunder campaign (Mod 10).
- MBH / MCBH - Manycoins Bank Heist, mod 15 skirmish
- MC - Malabog's Castle, a mid-level dungeon, though hard for its listed IL OR rarely 'master craft', a high level profession set.
- Mdemo - See Demo
- ME - Maze Engine, an area and campaign introduced in mod 9 (outdated see ME / MEX)
- ME / MEX - Master Expedition, new with Undermountain mod 16. An updated hunt type activity.
- Meta - The currently followed 'best known practices' for a group composition or class build.
- Mob - a term that predates mmos, short for mobile. Refers to monsters and other NPCs in a game.
- MOD - short for module. NW has major updates that are numbered and can include new areas, classes, powers, and other changes.
- MOF - master of flame, a type of cw.
- MOH - Master of the Hunt a small skirmish area
- MPF - Merchant Prince's Folly, a skirmish added in mod 12b.
- MSP - Master Spell Plague, dungeon from mod 11.
- MSVA - Master SVA, a harder version of the SVA dungeon, added in mod 10.5
- MW - Master Works. An advanced level of crafting that can be worked on after reaching l̶e̶v̶e̶l̶ ̶2̶5̶ level 70 in professions.
- NDemo - See Demo
- NP - No Problem. A positive, affirmative response.
- NPC - Non Player Character. All the beings in a game not controlled by a human player.
- NSVA - Normal SVA, a easier version of the SVA dungeon, added in mod 10.5
- NW - Neverwinter
- OP - Oathbound Paladin, a NW player class or 'OverPowered'
- PC - Player Character.
- PE - Protector's Enclave, the central player area, a section of Neverwinter city.
- POM - Prophecy of Madness - Demonic Skirmish, part of the Underdark campaign of mod 8.
- PUG/PUGGING - Pick Up Group, a group of random players, and the act of playing content with them
- PVE - Player vs Environment (opposite of PVP)
- PVP - Player vs Player (fighting other players, opposite of PVE)
- RAD - Rough Astral Diamonds - a prize for some activities, requires an additional refinement step b4 spending as AD.
- RAQ/REQ/RIQ - (old) Random Advanced/Intermediate/Expert Queue - selections of dungeons that a player can queue for.
- RDQ/RSQ/REDQ/RTQ - Queue names for queued content post mod 17.
- RD - (In context) Ready, as in 'ready to queue' or (now less commonly) River District. The area associated with Mod 11.
- RED - Random Epic Dungeon, one of the selections one can make with the random queue.
- RL - Real life. That which we attempt to escape by heading into GL.
- RoE - Ray of Enfeeblement, a CW encounter power.
- ROFL - Roll on the Floor Laughing. As it might seem, a slightly stronger version of LOL.
- SH - Stronghold, the home area of a guild
- SHE - stronghold heroic encounter, HEs done in the stronghold for specific prizes
- SMOP - Superior Mark of Potency, a refinement item for upgrading enchantments.
- SOI - Souls of Iruladoon, a guild in Neverwinter
- SOT - Shore of Tuern - a mid to high level skirmish
- SOZ - Sorry
- SKT - Storm Kings Thunder a campaign from (Mod 10)
- SOMI - Sea of Moving Ice, an area from (mod 10.5)
- SPC - Spell Plague Caverns, the lower level variant of the dungeon. Newer players may use to indicate MSP.
- SS - depending on context could have many meanings. Some could be Spell Storm a type of CW, or Sudden Storm a CW encounter power.
- SVA - Svardborg, a dungeon area added in mod 10.5
- SW - Scourge warlock, a NW player class.
- TI - Terrifying Insight, a dc passive power.
- TIA - Tiamat, a high level skirmish, the pinnacle of the Tyranny of Dragons campaign.
- TLDR; - Abbreviation for 'too long, didnt read;' Whatever follows is normally a shortened version of a long story.
- TOD - Tyranny of Dragons, a campaign from mod 4. Also rarely refers to TODG.
- TODG or 'Throne', Throne of the Dwarven Gods. Skirmish from the Underdark campaign of mod 8.
- TONG or T9g - Tomb of the 9 Gods, a dungeon added in mod 12.
- ToO - Tales of Old. A scheduled quarterly event that temporarily brings back 1 older dungeon at a time for special rewards.
- TOS - Temple of the spider, a dungeon.
- TR - Trickster Rogue, a NW player class.
- Troll - in context a monster race, or someone in chat/online arguing in a manner to be intentionally upsetting and/or attempting to pick a fight they have no substantive position on.
- TT - A faction choice in icewind dale used in open world PVP
- Trial - A 10 man queued activity, like a skirmish.
- TW- Templar's Wrath, on OP encounter power.
- UM - Undermountain, the campaign associated with mod 16.
- UMOP - Ultimate Mark Of Potency, a refinement ingredient for upgrading enchantments.
- UTC - Coordinated Universal Time - Newer standard of time zones, officially always used but rarely used in conversation (see GMT).
- VT - Valindra's Tower, a mid to high level dungeon, though hard for its listed IL requirement.
- WAI - Working As Intended, a fictional state that requires clairvoyant reading of the devs minds to know.
- WC - Wrong Channel, reporting that your nonsensical statement was meant for someone else.
- WE - One of the 'hunt type' activities introduced with mod 17.
- WOD - Well of Dragons, an area associated with the Tyranny of Dragons campaign.
- YH - Yester Hill - a large heroic encounter in Barovia from mod 14.
- YP - Yawning Portal - new in mod 16, common area for the UM campaign
- Zen - A currency in NW that you can buy with real money through Cryptic and Steam, or trade for AD within the game.
