Our recent AD guide mentions alts as a possible income supplement. Among other things this will fill the details out a bit more.
Neverwinter starts out by giving us all 2 free character slots. You can buy up to a total of 50 slots. Now thats a lot of character slots. That kind of army may be kind of rare nowadays, but somewhere in the middle it can be useful without taking up all your time, or involving you in any kind of banned activity.
Initially the author made all his alts for this reason. Theres just never enough bag space. ..and bags in NW are expensive as you may have noticed. So why not take advantage of other inventories, and the shared slots in the bank?
Having some spare space, even in mod 12b gets to be quite valuable. There are many many things that gain value over time, so holding onto them becomes a reasonable income bonus. If you're the one holding the rare widget when supplies run low, thats great! ..but ya gotta have the room to store some stuff.
Every character level 10 and greater (after doing the quest) can start invoking. That brings in bonus AD, up to a maximum of 100k bonus per character. Every time that character makes rough AD it will be 1/2 matched with the bonus you received from invoking. So doing dungeons/skirmishes and salvaging brings in even more AD. The more bonus AD you have access to, the better.
To best take advantage of the bonus AD you don't have to always run dungeons with 1000 characters. Run some with your alts, if you want but keep running the content you can with your main. Then move salvageable equipment off to your alts and use their bonus AD. ;)
This knowledge can be a bit obscure, but you can move your AD from character to character as well. It just takes an extra step. (It really should be built into the bank, but its not.)
See here for the details.
Guild Progression and Special Events
Many of the currencies that build the stronghold are limited per day. With each alt you can multiply your donations to the coffer of shards and vouchers. That gives you guild marks, which can be turned into more AD.
Then there are the Special events like Simril, Summer Festival, and Gond. They each have daily limits as well. You can use your alts to farm more and better prizes from these. Some of the most valuable items in the game can be made a lot more available just by giving yourself more chances at them.
Ive come to see this as valuable after making alts of all the classes. Many is the GWF or tank that has no idea just how deadly those reds are to a squishier class. Many is a DPS that has no idea the work DCs go to in targeting your teleporting butt to keep you alive. Many are the controllers that don't know the frustration of a GWF trying to run down an add thats been casually flung away.
Each of these can learn from the other and learn how to use their powers so that it doesn't take away from someone else. That makes for group play, and then everybody is happier.
