Preview patch on March 29th changed the stats, the numbers are no longer accurate although crit is still capped at 50%. As per a recent official post regarding Mod 16, lots of changes were announced. One of the changes that really got players' attention was: Critical Strike is now capped at 50%. Many are interpreting this to mean that we simply reach 50% Critical Chance and we never have to worry about it again. That is not correct. While one of our goals will be reaching 50% Critical Strike chance, the amount of Critical Strike rating needed to achieve that can keep going up each time a new area is introduced.
What do we know so far? We know that there will be now be opposing stats. Here is a list of the stat pairs: Critical Strike - offensive Critical Avoidance - defensive Combat Advantage Bonus - offensive Awareness - defensive Accuracy - offensive Deflect - defensive Armor Penetration - offensive Defense - defensive Power - offensive (doesn't have an opposing stat that reduces its effectiveness) One way to think of it is like this: the higher the defensive stat on the mob, the higher the opposing (opposite stat) needed to "break through". We also learned how these were going to be calculated: "Here is how opposing rolls work in Neverwinter: % gain = (Rating –OpposingRating) / 500 Which is simply saying that for every 500 rating points you are above your opponent’s opposing rating gains you 1% to a stat. Let’s look at an example where you have 10,000 Critical Strike and the opponent has 7,000 Critical Avoidance. Critical Chance = (10,000 – 7,000) / 500 = 6% Enemies will have the same value for all of their ratings, and all of the enemies in a given zone/dungeon will all have the same rating values. To use the first area of Undermountain as an example, all of the enemies have 16,000 for all of their ratings Critical Strike gets a bonus 5% chance by default." Critical Chance at 50% is the max possible, but in order to keep reaching that 50% chance we will need to increase our Critical Strike rating. New areas will give us harder monsters with higher Critical Avoidance which means that what was previously 50% effective may now only be 25% effective against the stronger mobs. So we need to raise our critical strike again in order to increase our critical chance back to 50% against these new, stronger mobs. Put simply , we will need to keep adding more Critical Strike to keep up with the monsters. Let's calculate how much Critical Strike will be needed in the first area. We can do this by working sort of backwards through the above formula. Our goal is 50% Critical chance. We know we get a free 5% critical chance. So 50%-5% = 45% We know that for every 500 points of Critical Strike rating we have, we get 1% Critical Chance. 500 x 45 = 22,500. so now we know we need 22,500 Critical Strike rating* at a minimum. Next we know that the mobs in the new area will have 16,000 to all stats, which means they will have 16,000 critical avoidance. simply add 16,000 to the 22,500 (found above) = 38,500 critical strike rating is needed for the first area of Undermountain. We can check ourselves by using the original formula: (38,500 - 16000)/500 = 45% Now we take that 45% and add the 5% that they give us and we get our 50% *It's important to note that this number has no relation to our current Critical Strike rating. In other words, we have no idea yet how hard this number is going to be to achieve since we can expect to see adjustments made to the stats on all gear, comps, pets, boons, etc.
